Cosmetic Hospital Negligence Claims

Hospital negligence claims solicitors, who normally handle cases recovering compensation for victims of misdiagnosis, botched surgery, negligent childbirth and other errors, are reporting a massive increase in claims made against cosmetic surgeons.

Hospital negligence claims are covering increasingly broad areas of practice, with cosmetic surgery errors rising the fastest. Botched surgery has been known to scar, disfigure, injure, or even kill patients.

The patients' charity, Action Against Medical Accidents and hospital negligence claims solicitors are calling for regulation of cosmetic surgeons, as at present there is no information regarding a surgeon's competence which is readily available to patients. This means that a surgeon with experience of stomach surgery can operate on a patient's face, which would obviously not be the patient's preference.

The organisation AvMA, is so worried about the current situations that it is considering setting up an independent body which would supply patients with information about their surgeon, his or her competence and his or her success rate. Such an organisation would also be able to offer support to patients whose surgery has gone wrong.

As hospital negligence claims solicitors spend more and more time dealing with the repercussions of botched surgery, they are renewing their calls for tighter regulation of the cosmetic surgery industry. Finance packages and generally cheaper prices have made cosmetic surgery more accessible to everyone and patients are in need of more information than ever before in order to prevent injury, scarring, disfigurement and even death at the hands of poorly trained cosmetic surgeons.
